Halley at a Glance
Halley Griess was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, a city with the same Midwestern values as Des Moines. As the son of a self-employed business owner, he quickly learned the importance of hard work in daily life and the practical realities of living paycheck to paycheck. Because of this, he understands the impact decisions have on families and businesses, and is committed to seeing individuals succeed.
After graduating from high school, Halley moved to Des Moines to pursue a college education from Drake University. Having to pay his own tuition, Halley worked part-time throughout school, yet still managed to fulfill his graduation requirements in only three years. In college, Halley had the opportunity to be a Resident Assistant for two years and served as the President of Campus Fellowship, one of the largest organizations on Drake's campus. Halley graduated in May of 2008 with a degree in Accounting.
Halley has spent the last three summers organizing volunteers and coaching for Central City Soccer, a league designed for youth primarily in the Cheatom Park and King Irving neighborhoods. Central City Soccer has grown over the last six years and now reaches nearly 500 kids aging from pre-kindergarten through high school.
Halley continues his education at Drake University Law School and anticipates receiving his J.D. in May of 2010. He is currently the Managing Editor of Drake's Journal of Agricultural Law. Halley met his wife, Colleen, while at Drake and they were married in the summer of 2008. Halley and his wife are active members in a local church. Halley currently works part time for an insurance company in Des Moines and is a Beaverdale resident.
